Ingredients:
2/3 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons orange or lemon juice
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1-2/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
pinch salt
Glaze:
orange syrup or orange preserve
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Preparation:

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda
and set aside.

In a large bowl or food processor, mix vegetable shortening,
egg, vanilla and brown sugar.

Add all other ingredients except pecans and glaze.

Blend at medium speed until dough is stiff.

Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C).

Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes until deep golden brown.

Cool on wire rack.

Top each cookie with glaze and chopped pecans.
