Several scientific groups suggest that Americans
moderate the amount of fat in their diets. Some recommend that fat be limited to amounts that will provide no more than 30 percent of calories.

For example, a woman wishing to moderate her fat intake to 30 percent of her 2,000-calorie diet is advised to select foods that total no more than 65
grams of fat per day.

Food energy is reported as calories. A calorie is the
unit of measure for the amount of energy that protein, fat, and carbohydrate furnish the body.

The official unit of measurement for food energy is actually
kilocalories (kcal), but the term “calories” is commonly used in its place. In fact, “calories” is
used on the food label.

Alcohol also contributes to the calorie content of alcoholic beverages.
