Traditional Cream of Wheat

1 teaspoon salt
4½ cups boiling water
3/4 cup cream of wheat

Makes 6 servings.

  • Add the salt to the boiling water, and when it bubbles sift in the cream of wheat through the fingers, stirring rapidly to prevent the formation of lumps.
  • Cook directly over the heat for a few minutes until it thickens; then place it in a double boiler and cook for about 1 hour.
  • Serve hot with cream or milk and sugar.
NOTE: Cream of wheat  made according to this old fashioned recipe is a very good traditional breakfast dish.
