| Croatia is a land for all
seasons. Good road, rail and air connections, with international airports
in Zagreb, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik and Osijek, and several
smaller airports, and ferry links with the Italian coast: Croatia is indeed
the nearest warm sea for the Western European tourists and one of their
favorite destinations. Croatia has been described as the sailing boat paradise.
Croatian gorgeous landscapes, clean and well-kept beaches, hospitality,
summer and winter resorts, excellent food, beautiful campsites, friendly
people and plenty of cultural sights, rich history and the right blend
of the past and the present attract most tourists in the summer.
Most tourists know
that the mild Mediterranean climate will make their stay in the Adriatic
resorts just as pleasant, or perhaps even more so, in the off season, in
spring or autumn. Croatian winter tourism has not made full use of the
natural potential. The ski centres of Gorski Kotar, Delnice, Mrkopalj,
Bjelolasica and Platak are only a couple of dozen miles away from the sea.
There are good game preserves in both the continental and coastal areas.
Croatia has several thermal
and mineral springs. The spas are most numerous in the continental part
of Croatia: Varazdinske Toplice, Tuheljske Toplice,Stubicke Toplice, Krapinske
Toplice, Lipik,Bizovacke Toplice, Daruvarske Toplice, Topusko and so on.
On the coast there are health resorts in Umag, Opatija, Crikvenica, Veli
Losinj, Hvar, Makarska, Vela Luka and in the Istria - Istarske Toplice.
Known as a tourist country,
gaining importance as a business partner, Croatia plays host to over three
hundred international conventions in its congress centres. Every major
city offers all the facilities for professional conventions, with the ideal
combination of business and pleasure.
After all, tourism in the
modern sense began in Croatia in the 19th century. |
